Even sounds work best
You don't wake up from sound itself, but from sudden changes. An even background sound makes those changes smaller. That's why steady sounds, like noise, rain or the sea, work better for sleep than music.
Which sound suits you?
- Noisy neighbours or traffic: brown noise or the sea.
- Voices and a TV through the wall: pink noise.
- Sharp, high sounds: white noise.
- Silence that feels too quiet: rain, a stream or a fireplace.
Not sure? Noisely's free Mask what you hear feature listens to your room for ten seconds and suggests the noise and volume that suit it best.
Let the sound fade out
Set a sleep timer from 15 minutes to 2 hours. At the end, the sound fades out over 1, 5 or 15 minutes so the sudden silence doesn't wake you.
Frequently asked questions
Is it bad to sleep with sound on?
At a low volume it's fine for most people. Use a sleep timer if you don't want it playing all night.
Does the sound keep playing with the screen off?
Yes, if you add Noisely to your home screen and open it from there.
