The sound of the ocean, all night long

Waves rolling in and drawing back have a steady rhythm that calms many people down. The low roar covers traffic and other noise without drawing attention.

Why ocean sounds are so calming

A wave arrives in a few seconds and then draws back more slowly. That rhythm is similar to calm breathing, and many people notice their own breath following along.

Ocean sounds are also rich in low tones. Like brown noise, they cover the rumble of traffic or neighbours well.

Breathe with the waves

Noisely has a free exercise where the sea follows your breathing: the wave rolls in as you breathe in and draws back as you breathe out. Choose your rhythm, for example four counts in and six out.

Ocean mixes

  • Calm sea: waves with a touch of brown noise.
  • Storm at sea: waves, wind and rain.
  • On your sleep island you unlock gentle surf, and later gulls and whale song.

Frequently asked questions

Are ocean sounds better than white noise?

They're different. White noise is even and covers high sounds well. Ocean sounds have a rhythm and more low tones. Try both.

Is the breathing exercise free?

Yes. Breathe with the waves is free in Noisely, no account needed.
